2024 Alberta Black Bear - Bowhunting Bear in Canada
I head to north-eastern Alberta with Dean Schlekewy from Reconeco Outdoor cellular trail cameras to chase black bear! This is my first spring black bear hunt and although the weather set us back a day or two we were able to capitalize on a BIG boar at 20 yards.
I chose to bow hunt with my Hoyt RX-8 Ultra and Ozcut 125 grain Elite Broadheads.

Can’t anyone spot and stalk anymore? Everyone wants the easy way.
While people can spot and stock, in areas where bear populations are really high, baiting is a highly effective management tool, especially because you get to see a lot of bears and can select for large mature boars that kill cubs. I live in MT and do only spit and stalk, but I don’t begrudge those who hunt over bait. It isn’t as easy as it looks either. There’s a process for selecting a good bait site, keeping it filled, and managing the approaches to the baits. Carrying in hundreds of lbs of food multiple times throughout the season isn’t the easy way by any stretch of the imagination.
@@SammyMoore-tg5gs cut the bullshit, just because it requires finding a spot and a bakery to get your bait from doesn’t make it difficult. And there’s no carrying bait. It’s on an ATV. It’s like shooting fish in a barrel. Come to NW Montana and be a man. Spot a bear, stalk a bear and shoot.
@@eichmann5902 I live full time in the Yaak. You don’t get more NW Montana than that. I also only spot and stalk hunt, but just because I do it that way and prefer to pursue bears that way doesn’t invalidate other means of take.

How much does it cost for this package?
Depends on which package you’re after, mine (Brandon) 6 animals was a $5500 deal, the other guys had packages with individual animals on top of it. We’re headed back this August if you’re interested in joining our party!

We did, he was 270 pounds right after hibernating (they had a cold and snow front the day I landed in AB) so would have been much heavier in a few weeks! Hide was 7' square and 18 14/16" skull.
